Un festival de cine: Havana Film Festival New York 2017
El Havana Film Festival New York 2017 comenzará esta noche y durará 9 días, hasta el 6 de abril. Se presentarán más de 30 títulos y habrá proyecciones en muchos lugares diferentes como SVA Theatre, AMC Loews, Museum of the Moving Image, y otros.
Durante 9 días se presentarán películas de Argentina, Colombia y República Dominicana entre otras. Las entradas se pueden comprar online en su página web o en los cines antes de las proyecciones. También habrá eventos gratuitos, como la exposición de las pinturas y dibujos de Juan Padrón y la proyección de los mejores cortos de la escuela EICTV.
Hoy, en la apertura en DGA Theater, se presentará la película Esteban, dirigida por Jonal Cosculluela Sanchez. Es una producción cubano-espanola sobre un niño de 9 años que persigue su sueño de convertirse en pianista. La música de la película es de Chucho Valdés.
La ceremonia de clausura será el 7 de abril en DGA Theater. Esa noche se entregarán los premios a las películas ganadoras y después habrá una fiesta para cerrar el festival.

A film festival: Havana Film Festival New York 2017
Havana Film Festival New York 2017 will start tonight and will go on until April 6. It will feature more than 30 titles, and screenings will take place in many different locations like SVA Theatre, AMC Loews, the Museum of the Moving Image, and some others.
During 9 days films from Argentina, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic, among others, will be screened. Tickets can be purchased on their website or at theaters before the show. There will also be free events, such as the exhibition of paintings and drawings by Juan Padrón and a screening of the best shorts from the school EICTV.
Today, at the opening at the DGA Theater, the film Esteban, directed by Jonal Cosculluela Sanchez, will be screened. It’s a Spanish-Cuban production about a 9-year old kid that pursues his dream of becoming a pianist. The music in the film is by Chucho Valdes.
The closing ceremony will be on April 7 at DGA Theater. During that evening the winning films will receive their awards, and after that there will be a party to close the festival.

Un álbum: Mis Américas, de Kevin Johansen
Mis Américas es el séptimo album de Kevin Johansen. Es un disco de 13 canciones producido por Matías Cella, productor de Jorge Drexler. El álbum es un recorrido musical por América y sus diferentes estilos, desde el foxtrot en Meanwhile (Take A Look Inside Me) hasta el country en 5 In The Morning, el bolero en El jardín del desdén o el son cubano en Oh What A Waist (¡Pero qué cintura!). En La Bach-Chata (Habladurías) habla sobre la insignificancia humana usando el Preludio 1 de Bach.
Johansen es un cantautor que cuenta sus experiencias en inglés y español. Siempre es inteligente y divertido, aunque esté narrando una situación dramática. Tiene una forma sencilla y amable de reírse de los prejuicios y preconcepciones humanas.

An album: Mis Américas, by Kevin Johansen
Mis Américas is the seventh album by Kevin Johansen. It’s a 13-track LP produced by Matías Cella, Jorge Drexler’s producer. The album is a journey through America and its different musical styles, from foxtrot on Meanwhile (Take a Look Inside Me) to country on 5 In the Morning, bolero on El jardín del desdén, or Cuban son on Oh What A Waist (¡Pero qué cintura!). La Bach-Chata (Habladurias) talks about the human insignificance through sampling Bach’s Prelude 1.
Johansen is a singer/songwriter who narrates his experiences both in English and Spanish. He’s always funny and intelligent, even when he’s singing about something dramatic. He has a simple, kind way of laughing at human prejudices and preconceptions.

Un libro: Amora, de Rosamaría Roffiel
Amora, la primera novela de Roffiel, fue publicada en 1989, y fue el primer libro de la literatura latinoamericana que habló abiertamente del amor lésbico. Desde entonces es una referencia para la literatura feminista. Está narrado en primera persona y habla abiertamente de la sexualidad de un grupo de mujeres que viven en un mismo piso, rodeadas de una sociedad machista. Estas mujeres se sienten controladas por el sistema patriarcal que las asfixia por sus comportamientos fuera de la norma.
Roffiel es, además, muy conocida por sus poemas, donde muestra que otras formas de amar y de ser son posibles. Su obra sirve como fuente de inspiración para muchas mujeres de habla hispana en la lucha feminista.

A book: Amora, by Rosamaría Roffiel
Amora, Roffiel’s first novel, was published in 1989, and was the first book in Latin-American literature that openly spoke about lesbian love. Since then, it has become a landmark in feminist literature. Narrated from the first person perspective, it openly talks about the sexuality of a group of women who live in the same apartment, surrounded by a male chauvinist culture. These women feel controlled by a patriarchal system that suffocates them because of their non-normative behavior.
Roffiel is, in addition, well known for her poems, in which she shows how other forms of loving and being are possible. Her writing serves as a source of inspiration for Spanish-speaking women involved in feminist struggle.
