Una serie: Los favoritos de Midas

La historia gira en torno a Víctor, un rico empresario que recibe una carta de un grupo llamado ‘Los favoritos de Midas’. La carta presenta un dilema moral para chantajear al protagonista: o paga una gran suma de dinero o el grupo matará a una persona inocente elegida aleatoriamente en las calles de Madrid.

Inspirada en una novela corta de Jack London, Los favoritos de Midas es un thriller entretenido que sobre todo merece la pena por las interpretaciones de Luis Tosar y Guillermo Toledo.

A series: The Minions of Midas

The story revolves around Victor, a wealthy businessman who receives a letter from a group called ‘The Minions of Midas.’ The letter presents a moral dilemma to blackmail the protagonist: either pay a large sum of money or the group will kill an innocent person chosen randomly on the streets of Madrid.

Inspired by a short novel by Jack London, The Minions of Midas is an entertaining thriller that is especially worthwhile for the performances of Luis Tosar and Guillermo Toledo.

Un libro: Mala letra, de Sara Mesa

Mala letra es una antología de cuentos que tratan sobre la libertad y la desobediencia. Muchos de los protagonistas son niños o adolescentes que tienen experiencias cotidianas y sin mas importancia para un adulto, pero que a temprana edad pueden cambiar permanentemente el carácter.

Otro tema recurrente en los relatos es la culpa. Algunos personajes la llevan consigo como pequeñas cicatrices o como una maleta. Incluso en algún relato la culpa se hereda de madre a hija.

Sara Mesa desafía la frontera entre el bien y el mal en cada cuento. Parece que quiera incomodar al lector con finales turbios e incompletos como si quisiera nuestra colaboración para terminar algunas de estas historias.

A book: Bad Handwriting, by Sara Mesa

Bad Handwriting is an anthology of short stories about freedom and disobedience. Many of the protagonists are either children or adolescents who have everyday experiences that would have no importance for an adult, but that at an early age can permanently change their character.

Another recurring theme in the stories is guilt. Some characters carry it like small scars or like a suitcase. In some stories, guilt is even inherited from mother to daughter.

Sara Mesa challenges the border between good and evil in each story. It seems that she wants to disturb the reader with cloudy and incomplete endings as if she wanted our collaboration to finish some of these stories.

We recommend this book for advanced students.
