Palabras Curiosas: El Matasellos

Here is a new section in our Newsletter called Palabras Curiosas, where we will explain curious words in Spanish. Here is the first one:

El Matasellos (lit. the stamp killer) es el sello que usan en la oficina postal para cancelar el sello postal.

(El matasellos is the rubber stamp that they use at the post office to cancel the postage stamp.)

“Tengo problemas con IRS porque el matasellos de mi declaración de la renta es del día 15 de septiembre”.

(I have problems with IRS because the stamp cancellation of my tax return is from September 15th.)

“A mi hermano le gusta mucho el matasellos alemán. Dice que tiene un estilo muy interesante”.

(My brother likes the German stamp cancellation very much. He says it has a very interesting style.)
